What is a Metro Ethernet Circuit?

BT owns, and charges for, the copper infrastructure that is employed to terminate most Ethernet Circuits (regardless of supplier) at your premises.

For immediate compatibility with your communications systems and applications (e.g. IP Telephony/VOIP, video streaming, etc), Metronet's Metro Ethernet Circuits are terminated using a standard Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) interface.

It is a fully managed, VLAN capable CPE at your sites, allowing full management of your point to point Metro Ethernet Circuits, and a simple upgrade path if additional private circuits are required.

You can specify anything from a simple point to point Ethernet Circuit connecting two locations, through to a meshed network servicing complex inter-branch IP (Internet Protocol) connectivity requirements.

Unlike low end consumer ADSL/SDSL services, Metronet provides true 1:1 contention across all of its connections. Simply put, your 10Mbps bandwidth will not be compromised by other users of the network and, because the Point to Point Ethernet Private Circuits are fully symmetrical, you will benefit from equal levels of performance whether uploading or downloading data.
