Senior IT Engineer (3rd Line Support + Projects)

Location:    Warrington, Cheshire
Salary:         £25k - £30k plus pension contribution

Start Date: ASAP

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and service driven technical person to join the company as 
a Senior IT Engineer providing our clients higher level support and project design/implementation.

 

You would be working at 3rd level implementing solutions & providing higher level support to the 2nd line team when they need to escalate an issue.


Our clients are SME’s mainly based in Warrington and the Northwest region.  You would be accountable for ensuring that all clients infrastructures are solid and meet the needs of the individual businesses.  As such the role is demanding and rewarding at the same time, but you will be accompanied by a great technical team collectively accountable for ensuring we meet the needs and expectations of our clients.

Are You The Ideal Candidate?

The ideal candidate will already be working for a Managed Service Provider (MSP) at a senior level or you may be looking to advance your career and step-up to a senior position with a good level of responsibility.


You must possess the relevant Microsoft accreditations with a proven ability to support and install servers, network infrastructures, virtualisation and cloud technologies, including Office 365, Sharepoint and cloud backup systems such as Datto.
You would normally be based our Warrington office, but travel to client sites providing support and implementing changes/solutions will be required, so you need your own reliable car and a valid driving license.


As a senior team member you would have the autonomy to recommend and implement improvements within our business and with client systems, to boost our service offerings and improve overall productivity within the company.
 

Key Objectives

  • Provide 3rd line support directly to clients & assist other support staff (2nd support when required)

  • Identify and implement solutions for clients using our standard products and services

  • Perform network audits for clients and interpret the results to assist the sales team

  • Identify new technologies & assess commercial viability for the business and our clients 

  • Work with the technical director on various adhoc projects

  • Create written documents for projects and update our systems with actions taken

  • Assisting colleagues with issue resolution when they need your experience

  • Work effectively within our helpdesk support system and other internal processes

  • Collaborate effectively between client account management and technical teams members

  • Proactively remain up to date with the latest technologies and presenting information to the business

Candidate Skills & Qualities

  • Solid experience of common technologies and products including Microsoft Server, Exchange, Sharepoint, Office 365, Symantec AV products, and typical networking devices.

  • Ability to produce written documents and provide presales advisory help to the sales team
  • Strong ability to provide solutions where technically challenging issues and timescales exist

  • Excellent technical analysis and incident problem solving skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise work for the team in order to achieve deadlines and meet SLA’s

  • A confident and professional telephone manner with high customer service values

 
Technology Familiarity

  • Solid experience of common technologies and products including Microsoft Server, Exchange, Sharepoint, Office 365, Symantec AV products, and typical networking devices.

  • Microsoft Servers 2012, 2016 – implementation and ongoing maintenance (AD, DHCP, Group Policy etc)
    Microsoft Exchange 2010, 2013 and 2016

  • Microsoft 365 – migration and administration

  • DNS Management (LAN and ISP)

  • Microsoft PowerShell

  • Microsoft WSUS

  • Virtual technologies (VMWare / HyperV)

  • HP/Dell server hardware

  • Routers / Firewalls (Draytek, Sonicwall)

  • Network switches - installation and ongoing administration (PoE, VLAN etc)

  • Symantec Cloud anti-virus/anti-spam – monitoring and maintenance

  • Cloud backup products (Datto, Barracuda)

  • Installation and ongoing management of Cloud WiFi solutions (Ubiquiti, Meraki, Datto)

 

Up to date technical knowledge of key products will enhance any successes, so ongoing proactive learning of technologies and positive collaboration is a highly beneficial attribute.

Desired Qualifications / Experience

  • MCSE, MCSA, MCP, CCNA

  • HyperV, VMWare

  • At least 4 years working in a similar technical support role, ideally for an MSP

  • Any exposure to Connectwise, Labtech and BrightGauge is a distinct advantage

  • Azure and AD in the CloudMCSE, MCSA, MCP
