IT Support Engineer

Location:    Warrington, Cheshire
Salary:         £20k - 25k Plus pension contribution

Contract:    Full Time, Permanent

We are looking for an experienced 2nd Line IT support engineer to join our team of professionals providing support,
help and advice to our customers and their IT infrastructures.


Our clients are SME’s mainly based in Warrington and the Northwest region.  Support can involve simple resolution of issues as a one off call through to the complete management of a customers IT infrastructure. Your day will be varied and challenging, but you will be working with a small team of friendly professionals.

Over 95% of our support can be provided remotely, so most of your day would be based in our Warrington offices.  However, on occasions engineers are required to attend client sites for pre-scheduled visits, 
issue escalation and to undertake tasks/projects.

The ideal candidate will already be working for a Managed Service Provider (MSP), however this is not essential.

Key Objectives
We frequently install and support the technologies below so you should have experience and skills with these.
  • Provide 2nd line level remote and onsite support to end users from junior to senior levels
  • Install, remove and troubleshoot approved customer software on client computers
  • Anti-virus monitoring, maintenance and resolve infection outbreaks
  • Monitor and maintain servers – (e.g. security, disk space, encryption)
  • Administer Active Directory and group policies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve server and network issues
  • Manage and maintain WSUS and similar technologies
  • Assist with projects, including server installs, network upgrades, WiFi setups and 365 migrations
  • Support remote workers and assist with any connectivity problems quickly
  • Liaise with 3rd parties where manufacture and vendor support is required

Candidate Skills & Qualities
  • Experience of managing and administering Office 365, servers, Sharepoint and networking devices.
  • Ability to provide solutions where technically challenging issues and timescales exist
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise work to meet deadlines and conform to SLA’s
  • Possess a confident and professional telephone manner with high customer service values

Technology Familiarity
We frequently install and support the technologies below so you should have experience and skills with these.
  • Microsoft Servers - all version from 2003 onwards (including Small Business Server)
  • Microsoft Exchange 

  • Microsoft 365 and the 365 portal admin

  • DNS Management (LAN and ISP)

  • Microsoft PowerShell

  • Microsoft WSUS

  • Virtual technologies (VMWare / HyperV)

  • HP/Dell server hardware

  • Routers / Firewalls (Draytek, Sonicwall)

  • Network switches - installation and ongoing administration (PoE, VLAN etc)

  • Symantec Cloud anti-virus/anti-spam – monitoring and maintenance

  • Cloud backup products (Datto, Barracuda)

  • Installation and ongoing management of Cloud WiFi solutions (Ubiquiti, Meraki, Datto)


Up to date technical knowledge of key products will enhance any successes, so ongoing proactive learning of technologies and positive collaboration is a highly beneficial attribute.

Desired Qualifications / Experience
The following are preferred, but not essential.

  • HyperV, VMWare

  • At least 2 years working in a similar technical support role, ideally for an MSP

  • Any exposure to Connectwise, Labtech and BrightGauge is a distinct advantageMCSE, MCSA, MCP
