IT Support Engineer | 1st Line

Overview

We are looking to employ a 1st line IT Support Technician who is capable of working under pressure within our technical team.  Primarily working within the 1st line remit, you will be expected to develop skills quickly to undertake some 2nd line tasks where the need arises. The candidate will be self-motivated;  continually striving to develop personal skills and contribute to overall improvement within the team.


A combination of office and home working has become the norm due to Covid-19, so candidates must be punctual, disciplined and able to work unsupervised. The home environment must be suitable to provide professional remote services; uninterrupted, free from distraction and background noise.

The role demands a systematic approach to problem solving in order to find a speedy resolution to assigned tickets, working within SLA’s and deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have already worked in a similar role and have a good knowledge of IT related products and services.

Scheduled and ad-hoc customer site visits are regularly provided, so a full driving license and car is essential to this role.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital to the customer experience and come hand in hand with technical abilities. Applicants within the area of Warrington are preferred, but a sensible commuting distance will be considered.  We may consider a Graduate provided 12 months of commercial experience in a similar role can be demonstrated.

Occasionally, overtime will be required to deliver additional services or projects to customers. Flexibility is and enthusiasm to deliver our services an important attribute.

Key Objectives

  • Work within the technical team to deliver first line support.

  • Call answering overflow, receive calls and log tickets where required.

  • Provide remote and onsite support to external customers efficiently and professionally.

 

Essential Qualities
The following are preferred, but not essential.
  • Punctual, self-motivation with the ability to work alone or within a team

  • Ability to follow processes and work under your own initiative

  • A confident and professional telephone manner and high customer service values

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator with the ability to explain technical matters to both technical and non-technical people

  • Broad knowledge of IT products and services

  • Understanding of internet connectivity methods and cloud computing

  • Strong troubleshooting of software and hardware issues

  • Support, installation and configuration of:

    • Windows 10

    • Microsoft Office 365, Teams, SharePoint

    • Microsoft server administration 2012, 2016 2019 - Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, file security

    • Internet services – FTTC, leased line

    • Security software – centrally managed AV and email filtering

  • Firewall – methodology

  • Computer build and deployment
